After the passing of Dr. Sami Makarem in August of 2012, and in honor of his will, where Dr. Makrem specifically asks for three of the living rooms on the ground floor of the mansion to be turned into a cultural center, the family had decided to transform his entire 400-year old mansion in Aytat, Mount Lebanon, into a cultural center that serves as a permanent heritage museum for his works of arts as well as the works of art of his late father, Sheikh Nassib Makarem. Our aim, as a family, is for that cultural center to also include exhibition halls, a public library, and a Learning and Development Training and Conference Center, with a mission “to foster a culture of creativity, love for knowledge, virtue, and beauty” in various aspects of life; such as the sciences, literature, humanities, and arts, dedicated to all generations to come.
